The Boarding House Dam
The site contained the original Boarding House Dam
Logging Camp built in the 1850s. It was originally part of the Barnier Timber Lease brought by the Forestry Commission in 1935. The dam was constructed in 1952, primarily for fire fighting and increasing recreational use. The camp was the longest serving and largest logging camp in the Watagans. Crude bark huts were constructed and food provided for the workers. Today the site offers a pleasant picnic area with a short loop walking track along Boarding House Creek. Take this track through rainforest to view the spectacular moss covered wall (Photo above). Activities include day walks, picnics, barbecues, photography & frog watching

The dam was constructed in 1952, primarily for fire fighting and increasing recreational use. Boarding House Dam is a popular destination for day trippers from surrounding areas. Getting there, access via Mount Faulk Road. Road access is unsealed road/trail - 2WD (no long vehicle access). Facilities include picnic tables, gas/electric barbecues (free) and non-flush toilets. Water supply is provided by tank water on site, however the supplyis variableBringing your own drinking water is recommended.
Gap Creek camping area
Is located at the end of Bangalow Road on the eastern
side of the Watagans National Park. Campsites are located within tall blue gum
and blackbutt forest close to two rainforest walking tracks, one leading down to
the impressive Gap Creek Falls.

Getting there: Located at the end of Bangalow Road, 4.8 km from the Mount Faulk Road intersection.
Road access: Unsealed road/trail - 2WD (no long vehicle access). Dry weather
only.
Facilities: wood barbecues (bring your own firewood), gas/electric barbecues
(free), picnic tables, non-flush toilets
Water supply: There is a water tank on site, however the supply is unreliable so campers should bring their own water.
Not permitted here:
- Gathering firewood. Please bring your own firewood from outside ofthe reserve.
- Dogs.
- Horses.
Bookings are not required. Peak periods may limit availability. Alternative sites
may be available at Bangalow camping area or the adjacent state forest.
Monkey Face Lookout
is located in the north eastern section of the reserve.
Providing excellent views over the Martinsville Valley, you can also enjoy a picnic at this beautiful location.

Natural setting: dry eucalypt forests
Getting there: Accessible from Mount Faulk Road; turn into Monkey Face Road
and follow to the end.
Road access: Unsealed road/trail - 2WD (no long vehicle access). Dry weather only.
Facilities: picnic tables
Water supply: No water is available at this location.
Muirs Lookout
Adjacent to the Watagans in Jilliby State Conservation Area is Muirs Lookout. Found on the eastern side of the reserve,
Muirs Lookout provides views to the east over Mandalong, Morisset, Lake Macquarie and the coast. Why not enjoy a picnic making use of the fireplaces (please bring your own
firewood), picnic tables and toilets.

Natural setting: wet eucalypt forests
Getting there: Access to the area is either via Prickley Ridge Road (take care on this winding road) or via Martinsville Hill Road.
Road access: Unsealed road/trail - 2WD vehicles. Dry weather only.
Water supply: There is a water tank on site, however the supply is variable. Please bring your own drinking water. |
